A surprisingly simple yet surprisingly good looking portal effect all done inside Toon Boom.
The main effect is two turbulence nodes, one for an overall waviness and another for the smaller bubbly effect. (turbulence nodes are a gift from the animation gods) And on top of that, various glows, blurs and masks that bring it together.

To see what kind of bugs the new model has I did some tests! So far it's feeling alright.
There's a walk up above, and below is a flight test, to see if the more wingy arms look reasonable while flying. I think so? could use a bit of adjusting but it's a proof of concept.
