Iβve always found the idea of AI taking over the world faintly ridiculous: itβs classic othering. For one thing itβs just the same old fear of other tribes, other countries and aliens - who clearly want what we have!
But AI wonβt be an intelligence built on the back of evolution, with all its freight of instinct. Instead it will be something that thinks a bit differently than us.
So that was the basis for this story. How might that play out, and would it really need an army of murderous robots to do it? After the gloomy, brainless AI of the last story, this one felt frankly upbeat, and even a little frivolous. Oh well!
Now, speaking of aliens conquering us to steal our stuff, Iβve already started work on my War of the Worlds story, which Iβm very, very excited about. Canβt wait to show you.
