Magneto couldn't take Wolverine's regen powers because he can't take powers in any capacity. The reason he was focused on Rogue was because of her ability to leech powers from other mutants.

For example , Rogue, as the young Wolverine protΓ©gΓ©, takes the place of another character from the comics. In the comics, her age is more aligned with Storm, Cyclops, etc. But for the most part, this franchise is a pretty fun watch. The X-Men Animated Series on Disney+ is also a fun time also. Highly recommended!
