What is Sparks? Who are Sparks? How can we let there be Sparks? If you have ever asked yourself any of these questions I have a treat for you. I'm joined by special guest Johnny Weiss!!! We both talk about a band that I just learned about and Johnny has known for a long time! Check it out!
AH love Sparks! Love this album! So happy that you liked it too!

Never heard of sparks and instantly loved every song on this album. Iโll definitely be going through their discography. Love that johnny came on for an episode!

By golly, we got Johnny! Like Shawn said, it's albums like Kimono My House that make the series so much fun to follow. I'm listening to albums I'd never play on my own, most of the time to some enjoyment!

This was a great episode! ๐ Iโm glad Johnny was able to come on as a fan and give Sparks notes, no pun intended haha This album is great and probably their best, though I think Propaganda comes close. I like that one more personally. But I agree that albums like Angst in My Pants and No. 1 in Heaven come pretty close too. These two had a hell of a creative run in the 70โs/early 80โs and itโs super impressive that they never stopped making new music and performing! Watching this really makes me want to check out the documentary and their newer albums. My favoriteโs from Kimono are This Town Ainโt Big Enough for the Both of Us, Here in Heaven and Thank God Itโs Not Christmas. Love these songs, especially the guitar tones in This Town and Thank God. Keep up the great work Shawn!

100% agree that they've mastered the album cover!
This one in particular I really love.
Here in Heaven was my favourite track by far, the rest of the album was good but that one was a 10/10.
I'm excited to listen to more of their discography and find *my* album.

Yay we got Johnny!
The They Might Be Giants connection is real, Iโm a longterm TMBG fan and Iโve learned over the years that a lot of TMBG fans are into Sparks (and either love or hate Ween - another duo!)
Kimono My House isnโt my favorite Sparks album (that might be Propaganda or Whomp that Sucker, maaaaybe Woofer in Tweeterโs Clothing) but nearly every single song on Kimono rules. Talent is an Asset and In My Family are the catchiest and best songs IMO but the re-issue added Barbecutie and thatโs always stuck in my head.
Some other Sparks tracks I love are : โPretending to be Drunkโ - it sounds like a Prince b-side, โMickey Mouseโ - which led to the Disney-sanctioned Minnie Mouse on Splashdance, โPulling Rabbits out of a Hatโ - but the Plagiarism version for sounding super lush and full.
I second just picking an album that looks up your alley and giving it a listen! And then check out Plagiarism for newly arranged versions of their older tunes. The version of This Town Ainโt Big Enough for Both Of Us with Mike Patton is a super cool twist.
