“Long enough,” you say, leaning into the transgender lie. “What business is it of yours?”

“Of mine?” Paris hisses, her face flushed almost as bright as her hair. “You're working on my team now and you're having sex with your little bimbo in the middle of the workday at your desk!”

You swallow, realizing this lie isn't going to do much to save you from getting in serious trouble, if not fired, along with Cassie. You don't know what you can say to Paris, what lie you can spin, to make this okay.

Cassie pops to her feet and hisses, “You called her a tranny slut!”

“And?” Paris demands.

“That's transphobic! We'll tell HR how you treat her because of her sexuality. You're going to get fired, Paris!”

Your rival's face pales. The company had just embraced protecting all aspects of the LGBTQ+ lifestyles. People would get fired for far less these days with the company afraid of lawsuits from mistreated employees.

“I didn't know she was...” Paris splutters.

“Yes, you did!” Cassie snarls. “You said it to her face after you saw the truth.”

“Well. That doesn't change, I mean...” She swallows. “What do you want?”

You shudder and realize in a single moment things have shifted. You have power over the bitch who has made your work life miserable for the last two years. You can hold this over her head and get what you want, or you can get rid of her.

What do you do?

Do you march to Ms. Kato and tell her what Paris said?

Do you tell Paris she has to do what you say or else?
